How Did We Do?

Did You Know?
9 out of 10 system failures are caused by dirt and dust. A buildup of .042 inches of dirt on heating or cooling coils can result in a decrease in efficiency of 21%.

Business Challenge
During our first inspection of the heating equipment, Air Comfort found that the furnaces were aged and badly rusted, causing them to run improperly. Also, the heat exchangers were rusted through and severely pitted. Air Comfort’s safety policy mandated that all power and gas to the unit be turned off and the units tagged and locked as inoperable to prevent dangerous Carbon Monoxide (CO) emissions, thus the facility was without suitable heating in the middle of winter. Timing was critical.

The Air Comfort Solution
Air Comfort responded quickly in order to restore heat to the building. We determined that a replacement of both furnaces was the best solution for the customer. To alleviate the cold in the meantime, portable heaters were delivered to the location by an Air Comfort sales representative.

Because of the age and size of the previous furnaces, an exact unit replacement was not possible. Air Comfort took advantage of its in-house sheet metal shop to fabricate new ductwork to transition with the ductwork already in place. By involving several areas of the Air Comfort team and by completing the work in-house, the entire project turnaround time was three days.

The Result
By replacing the old furnaces, the bank was equipped with two new furnaces under manufacturer’s warranty. Energy efficiency was also improved within the building. Most importantly, because the damage to the heat exchangers was easily found during a thorough inspection, National City Bank was able to act quickly. According to John Milliken, facilities manager, National City Bank’s philosophy is “employees first, then our customers and then our assets. Because of the quick response time of the entire Air Comfort team, we were able to prevent potential exposure to CO in a timely manner before any harmful affects were experienced.”
